Florida Tech Participates in Missile Defense Agency Contract

– Dr. Susan Earles, Florida Tech assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, is participating in a $70,000 grant from the Missile Defense
Agency on Infrared Materials Modeling. The Florida Tech portion is $30,000.

With the help of two graduate students, Prasad Gaitonde and Vhaibav Gupta, Earles will create a model for a semiconductor materials processing simulator.
The model will aid in the fabrication of a type of infrared detector capable of detecting a wide range of wavelengths. These highly sensitive detectors
have many uses, including target recognition, which involves characterization of thermal images, such as people wandering at night in the desert.

Florida Tech offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering and computer engineering.
