Taking Back Sunday to Headline FIT Homecoming Fest 2013

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology welcomes everyone to join alumni, faculty, staff and students as they celebrate “There’s No Place Like Homecoming 2013” Oct. 24-26. The three-day event includes a 5K Run in Downtown Melbourne, a free concert and an awards ceremony that will recognize the very best of Florida Tech’s alumni.

Homecoming events start at 6 p.m. Thursday with a 5K Run in Downtown Melbourne with proceeds to benefit Florida Tech cross country teams. To register, visit http://homecoming.fit.edu/run.php or stop by the Running Zone location in Melbourne.

On Friday, Homecoming Fest will be from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. in Downtown Melbourne with a lively street party featuring street vendors, food, drinks and a live performance by Taking Back Sunday, an American rock band from New York, with several opening acts. This free homecoming concert is sponsored by Florida Tech’s Student Government Association (SGA), the Florida Tech Alumni Association (FTAA) and Main Street Partners and is open to the public.

Saturday’s events kick off with the Homecoming Parade, which begins at 10 a.m. on campus. Florida Tech will play its first Homecoming football game against Warner University. It’s at 1 p.m. at Palm Bay High School’s Pirate Stadium, located on Pirate Lane, off Babcock Street. A tailgate party before the game will be on campus from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Later that evening, the Homecoming Awards Gala, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. in the Clemente Center on campus, will start with a cocktail reception. The event will showcase and honor alumni with a celebration including drinks, food, dancing and live music by the all-faculty band, TWITCHY. Each college within Florida Tech will present their Outstanding Alumni Awards for 2013 and the Florida Tech Alumni Association will present the Jerome P. Keuper Distinguished Alumni Award.
