Talented Students Play in Satellite High School Jazz Bands Event
– WFIT 89.5FM-a service of Florida Tech-and the Cocoa Redevelopment Agency will present Satellite High School Jazz Bands 1 & 11 in Cocoa’s Riverfront
Park on April 24, from 3-6 p.m. to celebrate the Smithsonian’s Jazz Appreciation Month. The event is free.
The Smithsonian-sponsored jazz appreciation month is intended to put the spotlight on jazz and draw public attention to the glories of jazz as both a
historical and a living treasure. The idea is to encourage musicians, concert halls, schools, colleges, and public broadcasters to offer special programs
on jazz every April.
Mark Nelson is the long time director of the award-winning Satellite High School jazz bands, which comprise many imaginative and talented students. Nelson
says that his students “are full of emotion and love, with a passion for music.” Local jazz icon Jack Simpson, says, “Wow, they really do understand the
true meaning of jazz. They are our future.”
