Tech Comes From Behind to Win 3-2 in Volleyball

MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Florida Tech Panthers (2-4) overcame a two game deficit to regain control of the final three games to defeat the Flagler College Saints
(6-3) 3-2 in a hard fought battle this evening at the Clemente Center. In game one, Tech fell 31-29 after getting out hustled with the Saints hitting .295
to the Panthers’ .188 attack percentage.

In game two, the Panthers again preceded to see-saw losing 31-29 seeing five lead changes and eight knotted scores for the repeat performance.

The Panthers finally gained their composure and control in the third game taking the Saints down 30-26 after hitting their best game at .308 for the
evening. In the fourth game, Tech saw their biggest lead defeating the Saints 30-23.

The tie-breaker was won 15-12 after senior outside hitter Megan Konopnicki (Plano, Texas) served the first four points with two aces. Konopnicki proceeded
to finish off the match grabbing the 13th point after her third ace of the game.

Fellow senior middle hitter Jenny McCoy (Titusville, Fla.) led all hitters with a .385 attack percentage, chipping in three blocks for the night. Freshman
outside hitter Frankie Brown (Panama City, Fla.) led Tech with 17 kills and 17 digs for the game. Junior middle hitter’s Jessie Metzger (Oxford, Conn.) and
Lindsay Foster (Titusville, Fla.) each pitched in 10 kills.

Foster and Brown led at the net with six block assists, while defensively junior setter Amanda Boyce (Madison, Wis.) led on the court with 19 digs. Leading
the way in sets was Boyce with 44 assists for the game.

Five Panthers found the double figures defensively including Boyce and Brown along with Konopnicki and junior Katie Dobek (Sterling Heights, Mich.) at
eleven and freshman Melissa Reinders (Orlando, Fla.) with 17 digs. The team tallied 79 digs for the night.

Saints’ were lead by freshman Justine Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla.) who knocked off 17 kills and 14 digs. Two other Flagler Saints’ hit double figures
including sophomore Leah Melton (St. Augustine, Fla.) with 14 and freshman Katie Beale (Stuart, Fla.) with 12 kills. Melton led her team with a .276 attack
percentage.

The Panthers will be back in action this weekend traveling north to the 2006 Chatham Orthopedics/AASU Volleyball Classic hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State
on Friday the 8th and Saturday the 9th in Savannah, Georgia. Tech will face USC Upstate in the early match at 3:00 p.m. to open up the Classic.
