Tech Falls 82-57 Against Nova Southeastern

Tech’s Ed Parotte on the Block

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.-Junior Edmond Parotte (Las Vegas, Nev.) led the way for the Panthers scoring a career high 10 points and five rebounds going a perfect
3-for-3 from the field while senior Ryan Maultsby also added 10 points for the Panthers. Florida Tech (3-18, 0-11) had a rough start falling behind 42-35
at the half to the Nova Southeastern Knights (13-7, 7-3).

After the disappointing first half effort, Head Coach Billy Mims decided for the first time this season to change the entire line-up starting junior Matt
Hill (Ft. Myers, Fla.) at point, junior Joe Salls ( Homewood, Ala.) at two guard, senior Michael Carbenia ( Orlando, Fla.) at three guard and Parotte at
forward along with starter sophomore Jod Kelley (McCormick, S.C.) to open up the second period. Senior reservist Romark Suckra (Kingston, Jamaica) was the
only sub in the first ten minutes of the half.

These 6th men players played with extreme heart and limited the Sharks to only one from the charity stripe the first five minutes. They managed to score
twelve points by 15:32 to bring the score to 41-37. Parotte started off the run hitting to consecutive buckets, while Carbenia chalked up two more from the
line. The spark really became evident when Carbenia hit a three pointer from the arc to give the bench a thrill and pump the Panthers up.

At 15:22 the score seesawed to six down and then Tech brought it to four again at 14:34 off a free throw by Parotte. The score again spiked to 54-41 at
12:29 in the Sharks favor, but Tech once again brought it to within three baskets at 11:35 off a jumper by Kelley. Despite the valiant effort by the “sixth
man club”, the Panthers started to run out of gas and ultimately fell by 25 points after Mims replaced the second half-starters at eight minutes left in
the game.

Hill added nine points and three assists, while Kelley finished with eight points. Carbenia also added five points for the Panthers.
