Tech Loses Close Bout With Tampa 55-50
TAMPA, Fla.–Senior small forward Ryan Maultsby led all players scoring 14 points for the Panthers. Florida Tech (3-11, 0-4) fought a hard battle losing
55-50 to SSC foe Tampa Spartans (12-3, 3-1) tonight at the Martinez Center. Tampa pulls ahead to grab the #2 spot in the Sunshine State Conference
standings under Lynn; who defeated them on Saturday.
For one of the first times this season, Tech fell dead even with the Spartans under the boards with both teams notching 44 for the night. Unable to reach
the line in the first half, Tech grabbed a slight lead in free throws percentage wise going 9-for-13 hitting 69.2% while Tampa hit only 60.0% despite
almost double the chances going 12-for-20.
Sophmore E. J. Murray (Rockledge, Fla.) pitched in his second double-double of the season with eleven points and 12 assists. Junior Damien Clark added 10
points. Before sitting due to an injury senior Titas Vainauskas (Vilnius, Lihuania) had nine points.
Sophomore forward Chris Evans (Tampa, Fla.) achieved a double-double for the Spartans with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Fellow sophomore forward Jeremy Black
(Tampa, Fla.) also added 11 points as did senior forward Kevin Byrd (Miami, Fla.) coming off the bench. NCAA leading assist maker senior guard Mark Borders
(Orlando, Fla.) dished out the game high 14 assists.
Tech will face Saint Leo at home on Saturday, January 14th at the Clemente Center with the tip-off concluding the women’s game.
