Tech Mens Tennis Sweep Oneonta 9-0 with Womens Tennis Prevailing 6-3
MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the first time this year, the Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams beat out their opponents in Melbourne hosting SUNY-Oneonta, the Men
swept Oneonta 9-0 with the Women’s prevailing 6-3.
In Men’s doubles, all three teams defeated their opponents winning in men’s doubles 3-0. The pair of Clifford Giel (Savaneta, Aruba) and Keith Kesslar
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) defeated their opponents 8-4 putting their season record to 8-2 as a pair. The pair of Jonathan Hanna (Nassau, Bahamas) and Christian
Smith (Arouca, Trinidad) got their first win of the year as a pair against Oneonta 8-5 while the young pair of sophomore Christian Kieber (Sankt,
Gallenkirch, Austria) and freshman Arthur Yentumi (St. Louis, MI) defeated their opponent 8-6.
In singles, the men swept again winning all six matches with all but one match being won after two games. Clifford Giel defeated his opponent in two games
both 6-3 to improve to 6-4 on the season while his doubles teammate also improved to 6-4 defeating his opponent 6-2 in both games. The four other wins in
singles came from Hanna, Jeremy Casperson (Jacksonville, Fla.), Smith, and Joel Zahlan (Sarasota, Fla.).
On the women’s side in doubles, Tech took two out of the three matches with the pair of Michaela Horvathova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Natalia Ramos (San
Juan, Puerto Rico) defeating their opponent 8-2 while Nicole David (Fort Pierce, Fla.) and Andrea Madrigal (San Jose, Costa Rica) defeated their opponent
8-1.
Singles action saw the Panthers capture four of the six match’s on the afternoon with Horvathova, Ramos, David, and Madrigal defeating their opponents all
in two sets. Horvathova defeated her opponent 6-0 and then 6-1. Ramos defeated her opponent 6-1 and then 6-0 only losing one set while David went to defeat
her opponent 6-1 and 6-2. Finishing off her opponent, Madrigal won 6-2 and then 6-0 in the second set.
With the men sweeping 9-0, they will improve to 5-5 overall on the year and the women get their second win on the year now 2-4 overall with the 6-3 win
over Oneonta.
Both the men and women will be back in action on Tuesday, March 6th facing Lehigh University in Satellite Beach, Florida with the first matches starting at
12pm.
