Tech Softball Splits in Day One of Florida Southern Invitational

LAKELAND, Fla. – In day one of the Florida Southern Softball Invitational at Christina Park, the Florida Tech Softball team went away with one win and one
loss. Game one playing against West Chester University from Pennsylvania the Panthers defeated the Rams 12-0 in five innings and battled hard against the
#18 ranked Mocs in a 1-0 loss.

Against the Rams, the Panthers started off quick as they scored two runs in their first at bat. A double by Ida Danielson (Fairfield, Cal.) drove in Katie
Naumoff (Portland, OH) and Ashley Lugo (Cape Coral, Fla.). Again in the second, the Panthers scored another run off a Naumoff sacrifice fly. Taking a 3-0
lead going into the fourth and fifth innings, the Panthers opened up the flood gates going on a four run four hit fourth inning and then in the fifth
scoring five more runs with seven hits. In the fifth, Jen Wise (Lakeland, Fla.) opened the inning with a bombshell over the left field fence for her third
homerun on the year. Naumoff and Danielson drove in the other four runs with Katie driving in two runs after hitting a double while Ida reached second
driving in two after the Rams centerfielder dropped the ball a foot away from the center field fence.

Tech’s ace pitcher Amber West (Apopka, Fla.) pitcher a one hit outing surrendering only one walk against the Rams. West struck out five batters and getting
the Rams to ground out six times and fly out three times for her ninth win on the year.

Game 2 against #18 Florida Southern

In game two on Friday evening in the Florida Southern Invitational, the Mocs slithered away with a 1-0 victory over the Florida Tech Panthers as both
starting pitchers pitched strong outings in low scoring affair at Christina Park.

Tech’s starting pitcher Ida Danielson (Fairfield, Cal.) went 4.1 innings giving up six hits and the lone run to the Mocs. The Mocs scored its only run in
the top of the third inning, striking together three straight two-out singles. Despite giving up the run, Ida fought off Florida Southern getting out of
the inning with no further damage done. In her 4.1 innings of pitching, Ida only struck out one but utilized her teammates behind her as she got the Mocs
to ground out ten times.

Coming in to pitch in the middle of the fifth, Heather Boyts (Sarasota, Fla.) continued the fight against the Mocs allowing only one hit. Boyts also
utilized the defense behind her as she got the Mocs to ground out six times in her 2.2 innings of throwing.

Offensively, the Panthers couldn’t get anything going against the two-time all American Mocs pitcher of Megan Brown. The Panthers threatened in the third
inning getting two base runners but left them stranded on second and third. With only two hits combined against the Mocs, Tech was left at the end of the
game frustrated yet confident for their Sunshine State Conference series later in the year on April 9th and 10th in Lakeland.

Continuing the Florida Southern Invitational on Saturday, March 17th, the Panthers will play three games throughout the day with the first game starting at
11 am against Tampa then at 3pm against Bryant and the last one starting approx 5pm against Hillsdale.
