Tech Softball Sweeps Eckerd in Sunshine State Conference Series

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech Softball swept the Tritons of Eckerd College on the Nancy Bottge Field 6-3 in game one and 8-0 in game two to take their
overall record to 34-17 breaking the old season record for wins of 33 held by legendary head coach Nancy Bottge in her last year of coaching at Florida
Tech. In only her second year at Florida Tech, Head Coach Ellie O’Shei and the Florida Tech Softball team surpassed their previous season win record of 31
and now holds the school’s record for most victories in a season with a quarter of the season still to play.

Game one the Panthers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Danielle Stanley (Garyson, Ga.) led the inning off with a base hit. Three batters later, Stanley
was driven in by Katie Naumoff (Poland, Oh.) who drove the ball back up the middle for one of her two hits in game one. Striking back, the Tritons tied the
game with back to back hits scoring the first run of the game for Eckerd.

Warming up Amber West (Apopka, Fla.) pitching through the next two innings gave up one walk as she went on to earn her 14th win. At the plate through the
third and fourth, Tech scored four runs as Ida Danielson (Fairfield, Cal.) drove in three runs and Kristen Fettes (Deltona, Fla.) drove in the other run to
take a 4-1 lead.

Coming in to pitcher for Tech in the fifth was Heather Boyts (Sarasota, Fla.) earning her third save on the year gave up two runs in the seventh. The
Tritons rallied to score two runs as they combined for four hits but was quickly shutout as Boyts got the Tritons to ground out a total of six times in her
three innings of pitching. Boyts went on to strike out two batters to go along with the six ground outs while West gathered four strikeouts with four
ground outs and four pop outs.

Stanley, Fettes, Naumoff, and Danielson had multiple hits in the game while Ashley Coleman (Molalla, Or.), Ali Weigand (Tallahassee, Fla.), and Sarah Oram
(Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.) each had a hit apiece.

Game two saw Ida Danielson and Jen Wise (Lakeland, Fla.) smashing a two run homerun and a three run homerun as the Panthers defeated the Tritons in five
innings with an 8-0 victory. Danielson’s homerun was her second of the year as she hit hers over the left field fence while Wise smashed her seventh
homerun on the year and her second bomb over the monster in center field in back to back days.

The Panthers went on to score two runs in the first inning scoring Stanley and Laura Chisena (Ocoee, Fla.) who reached base in back to back appearances at
the plate. Tech in the second would score two more with the Wise’s homerun scoring Weigand who reached with her lone base hit of the game. In the third,
Danielson drove in three runs with her homerun scoring Fettes and Ashley Lugo (Cape Coral, Fla.) who reached on back to back base hits. Finally, the
crimson and grey would push their eighth run of the game as Naumoff drove in the run with a sacrifice fly to left field.

Tech would score their eight runs on six hits committing one error while the Tritons would total four hits but would fail to drive in a run. Six Panther
players had a hit in the game while Chisena, Naumoff, Danielson, and Wise drove in all eight runs.

Judith Husband (Wewahitchka, Fla.) pitching for the Panthers in game two struck out three batters giving up four hits with one walk. Husband forced
the visiting Tritons to ground out nine times and fly out three times as she earned her 15th win on the year.

Tech at the end of the afternoon moved to 34-17 overall and 10-2 in the Sunshine State Conference and is back in action on Saturday, March 31st in another
SSC series against Barry University with the first game starting at 3:00 pm  and then with a double header on April 1st at the Nancy Bottge
