Tech Tennis Swept by the Blue Hens of the University of Delaware
MELBOURNE, Fla. – As Tech hosted the University of Delaware in a non regional non conference match up the Florida Tech Panthers were swept by the Blue Hens
as the Men and Women both lost to Delaware; 6-3 on the men’s side and 7-2 on the women’s side.
The three wins on the men’s sides came from #15 nationally ranked double partners Clifford Giel (Savaneta, Aruba) and Keith Kessler (Brooklyn, New York)
defeated Austin Longacre and Andrew Blumberg 8-6. Giel and Kessler as a pair move to 17-2 overall on the season as the number one doubles pair for Florida
Tech.
In singles, both Giel and Kessler improve their overall record as they both went on the defeat their singles opponent; Giel defeated Nolan Greenberg 6-2,
6-0 for his 14th win on the year as Kessler defeated Austin Longacre 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 for his 15th win on the year.
On the women’s side, the Panthers doubles pair of Michaela Horvathova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Natalia Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) defeated Amanda
Campbell and Elena Berry 8-5 for Tech’s lone win in women’s doubles. As a pair Horvathova and Ramos improve to 7-2 overall on the season as the team falls
to 18-18 in doubles action.
In singles action, the number one singles player for Tech Michaela Horvathova defeated her opponent Amanda Campbell 6-2, 6-1 for the lone singles win for
Florida Tech. Horvathova improves to 7-5 overall on the season as the Panthers women’s tennis team falls to 5-7 overall on the season.
Next the Panthers tennis teams will face off against Lynn University in a Sunshine State Conference match on Sunday March 25th with the women’s starting at
10 am and the men’s starting at 11:30 am.
