Tennis Falls to Barry in SSC Mens and Womens Double Header
MELBOURNE, Fla. — Both the Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams hosted Barry University in their first Sunshine State Conference double header where both lost 8-1.
Singles matches were the two lone wins from the Panthers
On the women’s side Tech’s Andrea Madrigal (San Jose, Costa Rica) won at the number two position defeating Berit Peterson in a hard fought match. Madrigal
battled tough in the second set and seemed to stay focused.
“She was solid and confident in her game and did not lose confidence even in the tough moments,” said former top player Belen Pandre.
On the men’s side sophomore David Fowler (St. James, Barbados) took over his opponent Andre Thorton 6-1, 6-1.
David had a great match where he took control early and win it easily,” stated Pandre.
Both Cliff Giel (Savaneta, Aruba) and Keith Kessler (Brooklyn, NY) took their matches to a two long sets where Kessler won the second set eventually
falling 5-7, 7-5 (10-8) in the tie-breaker. Kessler was extremely close to his first Buccaneer win taking it to an 8-8 third set score.
Florida Tech will be back in action on Tuesday the 13th when the host Rollins at 2:30 p.m. and the men host Florida Southern on the 16th with a 2:00 p.m.
start both matches are Sunshine State Conference events.
