Tennis Takes Six at Tourney So Far

LAKELAND, Fla. (Tennis) – Florida Tech tennis started off strong Thursday at the ITA
Regional tournament in Lakeland, Fla. The team took two matches in men’s doubles and women’s singles as well as one match each in women’s doubles and men’s
singles.   On the women’s side, the team of senior Michaela Horvathova and sophomore Natalia Ramos was able to run
over Carnes and McCarty of Florida Southern University by a score of 8 to 1. Horvathova and ninth seed Ramos continued their strong performances in
singles. Horvathova overtook Erin Conroy of Florida Southern, 6-3, 6-3, and Ramos beat Deon Miller of FlaglerCollege in a match close at the end, 6-3, 7-5.
  The men were able to equal the women’s wins, taking three for themselves. In men’s singles sophomore John Hanna fought through a
tough match with Andy Jackson of RollinsCollege, 6-3, 2-6 (6). Hanna joined freshman Stuart Perkins to beat SaintLeoUniversity’s team of
Del Priore and Mike by a score of 8-2. Senior David Fowler and sophomore Artie Yentumi took it to Stacey and Watson, also
of Saint Leo, by an identical score of 8-2.   Junior Nicole David and sophomore Andrea Madrigal put up a strong
fight against Marada and Miller of Flagler College. In a match that went to the very end, David and Madrigal lost 8-6. In singles action, David fell to
fourth seed Alexa Korotkevich of Nova Southeastern, 6-0, 6-3. Madrigal also went down to a seeded player, ninth seed Edita Kulichova of Nova Southeastern,
6-4, 6-2.   In men’s singles, Yentumi couldn’t pull it out against Albin Hubscher of Rollins, losing 6-1, 6-1. Fowler gave Jonathan Gomez of Rollins a
challenge, but in the end fell 6-3, 6-3. Perkins battled J.J. Baylock of Florida Southern, but fell 6-1, 6-0.   The tournament continues through
Sunday.
