Florida Tech’s Spring Commencement May 8 at Clemente Center

University Will Bestow 1,270 Degrees

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Students from 32 states and 61 countries will receive their diplomas on Friday, May 8, as Florida Institute of Technology convenes its 2015 Spring Commencement ceremonies at the Charles and Ruth Clemente Center on the university’s Melbourne campus.

The undergraduate ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. and will feature 508 students, among the largest number of participants in recent memory. At 2 p.m., the ceremony for 452 students receiving master’s and doctoral degrees will be held.

Including 141 graduates from off-site programs, 289 graduates from the university’s online programs and several dual degree recipients, Florida Tech will bestow 1,270 degrees for spring 2015.

Among the recipients are international graduates from A (Albania and Austria) to Z (Zimbabwe). Other countries represented include Bangladesh, Cyprus, Eritrea, Jamaica, Kenya, Nepal and Uganda. Some parents and friends will travel thousands of miles to attend the ceremonies.

There are also students from 32 states in the U.S. from Alaska to Wyoming. Though more than two thirds hail from the Sunshine State, there are lone students from Arizona, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, North Carolina, Washington and Wisconsin.

Among the graduates will be three who earned Faculty Honors for their perfect, 4.0 grade point averages. They are Madelaine Elam, who will accept a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities; Timothy Hoiby, who will accept a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration/Computer Information Systems; and Alejandro Leon, who will accept a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering.
