Forbes: Florida Tech Among Top 50 Most Entrepreneurial Universities

School Joins Stanford, MIT, Princeton on Prestigious List

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology is one of the nation’s 50 most entrepreneurial research universities, according to Forbes magazine.

Released July 29, the Forbes list spotlights the 50 research universities that the magazine determined were “the most entrepreneurial” in the United States. It calculated this based on the numbers of alumni and students who have identified themselves as founders and business owners on LinkedIn, with an adjustment made for total student body size.

This is the second consecutive year Florida Tech has been included on the list. It is one of just two Florida universities in the 2015 rankings, and at No. 33 is ranked ahead of Notre Dame, Boston College and University of Michigan, among others.

From its founding as a school for technicians at the nation’s nascent space program to its business incubators that allow students’ innovative ideas to flourish and hands-on science and engineering design opportunities that could reshape the technology marketplace, Florida Tech has helped foster generations of entrepreneurs in a variety of fields.

In another list released on July 29, Florida Tech was ranked among the magazine’s America’s Top Colleges for 2015, based on analysis of five categories: student satisfaction, post-graduation success, student debt, academic success and graduation rate. Each category is weighted differently, with post-graduation success receiving the most at 32.5 percent of the ranking.

Florida Tech was also No. 7 on the list of the top 10 universities in Florida.

Give how well Florida Tech grads fare in the workplace, the university’s inclusion on the Forbes list is not surprising.

In March, Florida Tech was named the top university in Florida and among the top 40 private schools nationally for mid-career return on investment in the 2015 PayScale College ROI Report.

That survey found that 20 years after graduation, return on investment for Florida Tech graduates is $559,100. That was good for tops in Florida and No. 37 among 407 private schools surveyed by Payscale, as well as No. 66 among the full list of 1,223 public and private schools surveyed.
