The Play, ‘Reefer Madness,’ Comes to Florida Tech Oct. 31; Nov. 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology’s College Players is bringing the play Reefer Madness to campus. The play will run at the Gleason Performing Arts Center on campus on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9. All performances begin at 8 p.m.

Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, this raucous musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana. This leads them on an hysterical downward spiral filled with jazz, sex and violence.

The clever musical numbers range from big Broadway-style showstoppers to swing tunes. These include “Down at the Ol’ Five and Dime” and the Vegas-style “Listen to Jesus, Jimmy,” with showgirl angels.

Reefer Madness is a highly stylized and satirical political commentary. It contains adult content and may be inappropriate for younger audiences.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 55 and over and the military, and free to Florida Tech students with ID. For information, contact Sara Smasal, ssmasal2010@my.fit.edu.

The Gleason Performing Arts Center is located on West University Boulevard, near Babcock Street.
