The Search is on for Florida Tech Football Coach.

by Florida Tech Sports

Florida Tech officially opened the search for a football coach Thursday.

There is already applicant interest, said Director of Football Operations John Thomas.

“We have tremendous interest from coaches at all levels, from high school to the National Football League. We’re excited about taking the program to the next level and want to bring on the coach as soon as it is practical for the new coach to get here,” he said.

The Board of Trustees endorsed the football program April 30, 2010. The first year of competitive play is slated for 2013.

Thomas said that the search is wide open and his office is pulling out all the stops to evaluate and “bring to Florida Tech the very best fit for our program. We are looking for not only a great X’s and O’s coach, but one who is a strong recruiter, community activist and one who cares about the success of the players on and off the field.”

Thomas oversees all aspects of the university’s football program including fundraising, hiring and supervision of the coaching staff, facilities and day-to-day operations. Prior to coming to Florida Tech in 2008, Thomas was the head football coach at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy where he began that program.

Florida Tech Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer T. Dwayne McCay said: “We’ve worked hard the past year to build a solid foundation for the program and our first recruiting class has exceeded our expectations. Our first coach will begin in a very good position.”
