Respected Provider of Higher Ed Analytics Releases New List
MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology is one of the top 150 universities in the United States, according to a new ranking from Times Higher Education, the respected London-based provider of data and analytics on higher education.
Times Higher Education, known as THE, used its proprietary World University Rankings to develop its latest list, which was released last week. Considered among the most comprehensive rankings in the world, the World University Rankings are built using 13 performance indicators to examine a university’s strengths in five categories: teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.
Armed with that data, THE compiled its top U.S. list, which is led by California Institute of Technology and also includes Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Princeton University.
With an estimated 3,000 four-year colleges and universities in the U.S., according to the U.S. Department of Education, the THE list reflects the best of the best.
“The best universities and colleges in the USA number almost 150, and wherever you want to study in America, a top university will not be far away,” THE said in announcing its findings, which feature a geographically diverse collection of universities.
Florida Tech’s inclusion in THE’s “Best Universities in the United States 2016” list continues what has already been a busy year of national and international accolades for the Melbourne-based university.
In February, Times Higher Education released its list of the 20 best universities in the world with 5,000 or fewer students, and Florida Tech was included among the five U.S. institutions in that ranking. The elite group of universities featured world-renowned institutions such as the Paris-based École Normale Supérieure and California Institute of Technology.
In late March, another leader in higher education analysis, Forbes magazine, named Florida Tech one of the nation’s Best Value Colleges. Featuring just 300 U.S. colleges and universities, the list from the influential publication was designed to provide students a snapshot of schools offering the most value for the dollar. Florida Tech was also included among the 49 colleges and universities ranked as Best Value in the South and 200 Best Value private colleges and universities.
And in April, Florida Tech was listed among the nation’s best universities for return on investment 20 years after graduation, according to the 2016 PayScale College ROI Report.
With a $620,000 20-Year net ROI for graduates, Florida Tech ranked 53rd overall among more than 1,340 schools listed on the annual report from PayScale, a respected provider of cloud compensation software. The private, nonprofit research university was No. 27 among 505 private universities nationwide and easily the highest ranked university in the Sunshine State. Florida Tech was also ranked No. 36 among more than 420 research schools across the country.
