Top 10 Reasons to Go to Florida Tech: Sports Edition
We’ve got the hardware
Let’s start this list off right. Florida Tech has produced FIVE national championship seasons at the NCAA Division II level. Our Men’s Soccer team and Men’s Rowing team have each hoisted the trophy twice, but the most recent came in 2007 when our very own Daniela Lacobelli was crowned the National Women’s Golf Champion. Oh yeah, we’ve also won 32 total Sunshine State Conference titles.
We’re on SportsCenter
Not one, not two, but three times has Florida Tech been featured on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays. Not bad for a little old D-II school, huh? Watch each jaw-dropping highlight right here.

We’re ranked
There’s no need to live in the past. This spring, our Women’s Golf team ranked No. 4 in the country!
We have club teams too
It doesn’t stop at the NCAA either. We also happen to have a whole bunch of independent club teams that regularly compete competitively. Hockey, water polo, ultimate frisbee, surfing (which also happens to be one of the best in the country) rugby, baseball – the list goes on.
Our athletic program is actually kind of big
Florida Tech is the home of 22 different NCAA athletic programs. To put that in perspective, Florida State has 18 and the University of Florida only has 17. Now I realize those schools compete on a much higher level, but we are a much smaller school, and I think there’s something to be said about that.
We’re close to the pros
With more than nine professional franchises across a number of different sports, prestigious racetracks like the Daytona International Speedway and Major League Baseball Spring Training, the state of Florida is a prime location for any and all fans.
We have teams for everybody
Want to enjoy sports on a more casual level? It sounds like joining an intramural team is just the thing for you. Free from the sometimes-stressful commitments of varsity and club sports, joining an intramural allows you to focus on only one thing – having fun with friends.
We bring the noise
Last but definitely not least, we have the Panther Pep Band. It doesn’t matter if it’s a volleyball game in the Clemente Center or a football game at Pirate Stadium, you can always count on these guys bringing the noise and getting the home crowd into the mix.
