Wireless Center of Excellence Director Named at Florida Tech

– Dr. Chang Wen Chen has joined the Florida Institute of Technology as the Allen S. Henry Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering
and Director of the university’s Wireless Center of Excellence.

Chen most recently was head of Interactive Media Group at David Sarnoff Research Center. Since 1996, he has also been a professor at the University of
Missouri-Columbia.

Chen’s current research interests include wireless and multimedia communication, wireless sensor networks, image and video coding, multimedia streaming,
biomedical image processing and visualization. Among his more than 150 publications are two books, several book chapters and numerous Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) transaction and proceeding papers.

He earned a doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1992; a master’s degree from the University of Southern California in
1986; and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1983.

Dr. Allen S. Henry, whose donation funds Chen’s professorship, is retired vice president and general manager of JDS Uniphase Broadband Products Inc. He
also is chair of the Florida Tech Board of Trustees.

The Wireless Center of Excellence was established to develop outstanding wireless engineers in the growing field of wireless technology.
