Urinetown: The Musical Showing at Florida Tech Nov. 13-14, 19-21

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology’s College Players’ fall production is Urinetown: The Musical. This funny musical tale about oppression, love and rebellion is based on the book by Greg Kotis; music is by Mark Hollmann. The dates are Nov. 13-14 and 19-21 at 8 p.m. at the Gleason Performing Arts Center on campus.

The setting for the musical revolves around a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought that has crippled the Gotham-like industrial city. In a mad attempt to regulate water consumption, the government has outlawed the use of private toilets. The citizens must use public, pay-per-use amenities owned and operated by Urine Good Company (UGC), a private corporation run by the corrupt and iron-fisted Caldwell B. Cladwell. When resident Joe Bobby Strong decides he has had enough, he leads a revolution to overthrow Cladwell and UGC. Caught in the middle of the drama is Cladwell’s daughter, the beautiful and innocent Hope, who is in love with Bobby.

Tickets, available at the door, cost $10 for adults; $5 for ages 55 and older, and those with a military or student IDs; and $3 for students, faculty and staff with Florida Tech IDs.
