U.S. News, Washington Monthly, Rank Florida Tech Among Nation’s Best

For the 17th consecutive year, U.S. News and World Report has ranked Florida Institute of Technology among the nation’s top national doctoral universities.
For the second straight year, Washington Monthly magazine has done the same, ranking Florida Tech as the top private university in the state and second
only to the University of Florida among all state universities.

The U.S. News and World Report Guide notes two areas of growth in its rating scale for Florida Tech. First, the percentage of incoming freshmen who rank in
the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class is at a six-year high, at 32 percent. Second, alumni giving is on the increase, having grown to 12
percent.

Washington Monthly’s ratings, while incorporating some of the factors used in U.S. News and World Report, use a broader system to determine quality.

According to the magazine, its rankings are based on “how well [a university] performs as an engine of social mobility…, how well it does in fostering
scientific and humanistic research, and how well it promotes an ethic of service to country.”

Florida Tech President Anthony J. Catanese said the university will continue to emphasize these strengths.

“It is our goal to attract the best and brightest students to Florida Tech, for them to learn and grow in a challenging academic environment, and to
instill in them values that will lead them to spend their lifetime bettering their communities,” said Catanese. “As we build a university noted for both
high technology and the human touch, we will continue to emphasize teaching, research and service in all that we do.”
