Volleyball Downs Sailfish
MELBOURNE, Fla. – (Sept. 19) Florida Tech volleyball added anther win tonight defeating Palm Beach Atlantic 3-2 bringing their record to 12-2.
Standouts for the Panthers included Frankie Brown with 20 kills, Marcela Vasconcelos with 49 assists and 24 digs, and
Leigh Ann Brown with six blocks.
Leading the way for the Sailfish were Ali Mitchell with 21 kills, Emily Ryerson with 51 assists and Bia Santos with 19 digs. Brittany Erickson also tallied
six blocks.
Game one was fairly evenly matched up until the 10th point. Tech widened the gap with Amy O’Brien at the service line and held
the lead to win 30-28. Game two found the Panthers with an early five point lead until PBA fought their way back to tie. Tech began to pull away as
Mayne Pegorari went down with an ankle injury taking her out of the match. The Panthers stayed in it to win 30-22. Game three started much
in the same way as the first two, but this time the Sailfish took the lead and held on through Tech attack errors and rotation problems to win 30-25. Game
four was evenly matched until Brittany Erickson served five straight points for PBA. Tech fought their way back with Amanda
Boyce at the service line and lost game point on an error.
Tech was the most in control in game five with the score of 8-4 at the switch. PBA chipped their way back, but the Panthers took the game 15-12 and won the
match.
The Panthers will return to the Clemente Center this weekend to face the Eckerd Tritons on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Saint Leo Lions on Saturday at 4 p.m.
