Volleyball Falls to Nova in Heart-Breaker

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – (Sept. 12) Florida Tech volleyball’s winning streak came to an end tonight with a 2-3 loss at Nova Southeastern.

Mayne Pegorari led the attack for the Panthers with 18 kills, while Marcela Vasconcelos tallied 42 assists and
Amanda Boyce added 25 digs. Whitney Roberts also notched three blocks.

Leading the way for the Sharks were Christina Chubb with 16 kills, Valia Petrova with 51 assists, and Emily Carle with nine blocks. Paolo Ruiz and Kathleen
Yony added 16 digs each.

Nova struck first in game one scoring four unanswered points and maintained control throughout the game. Tech managed to chip their way back, tying the
score at 28. The game went back-and-forth into extra points with Nova taking the win 33-31. Game two found the Panthers scoring four quick points and
holding the lead for 25 points until Nova was up by one. The Panthers fought back and took the win 30-27 to tie the series. 
Nova took an early lead in game three and was up by as many as nine points towards the end. Tech battled, but the damage was already done as the Sharks
took game three 30-22. The Panthers bounced back with complete control of game four and never gave up their lead. They took the game 30-24, sending the
match to a fifth and final game.

An intense fifth game was tit-for-tat until Tech broke away with two kills and an ace to bring the score to 10-7. Nova closed the gap to a one-point game.
The Sharks then attacked with three consecutive kills to end the game 15-13, handing the Panthers their first loss of the season.

The Panthers return to the Clemente Center this Saturday (Sept. 15) at 4 p.m. to face Tampa, the defending NCAA Division II Champions.
