Volleyball Humbled by Defending National Champion Tampa

MELBOURNE, Fla. – (Sept. 15) Volleyball took their second loss of the season today from the University of Tampa Spartans 3-0.

Leading the attack for the Panthers was Sacha Gumbs who tallied five kills, Marcela Vasconcelos added 11
assists and Amanda Boyce who had eight digs.
For the Spartans was Alisha Green with 22 kills, Gabriela Saade with 27 assists and Margeaux Sinibaldi with 13 digs.

Game one started out well for the Panthers as they held the lead through the first 12 points before the Spartans tied it up and took the serve. Tech
struggled as Tampa served eight straight points to take the lead 19-13. The Panthers started to fight back, but it was too late and Tampa claimed the game
30-20.
Tech quickly fell to a 10-point deficit in game two while the Spartans controlled the game, winning 30-16. Unfortunately, it was same story, different
chapter in game three as Tampa consistently served five points for every term of service. The final score of game three was 30-16.

“We had a great opportunity to play at our level,” said head coach Qi Wang. “We’re better than we showed tonight.”

The Panthers will return to the Clemente Center on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. to face Palm Beach Atlantic.
