Volleyball Struggles Against #16 Florida Gulf Coast, Losing 3-0

FORT MYERS, Fla. (volleyball) – Florida Tech unable to gain an upward momentum to overturn nationally ranked Florida Gulf Coast Eagles in NCAA II South
Regional action fell 3-to-0 tonight at the Alico Arena. The game scores were 30-10, 30-15 and 30-15 in the quick played match.

The Eagles took immediate advantage of their home court, before a packed crown, jumped out to a 7-1 lead. The Panthers were unable to get in a rhythm only
scoring ten points for the first game. Eight of the ten came off kills with senior Megan Konopnicki (Plano, Texas) and junior Lindsay Foster (Titusville,
Fla.) each contributing two kills in the first set.

Again, the Eagles jumped ahead early never relinquishing the lead winning game two 30-15. Despite the Panthers coming close at 17-to-14 on the scoreboard,
Tech lost their groove and allowed the Eagles to go on a thirteen point scoring rally to grab set two.

Four Panthers scored points in the second game with Foster again tallying two kills. Fellow junior Katie Dobek (Sterling Heights, Mich.) served Tech’s lone
ace in the second game.

In the third game, the Eagles jumped out to an 8-to-2 lead before a seven- point Florida Tech run gave the Panthers a brief 9-to-8 lead. Konopnicki and
fellow senior captain Jenny McCoy (Titusville, Fla.) each chipped in two kills apiece for the third game.

Freshman libero Melissa Reinders (Orlando, Fla.) led all players with 19 digs in the match; while Megan Konopnicki and Lindsay Foster each recorded five
kills.

The Eagles’ Brooke Youngquist had 15 kills while hitting .400 and picking up 16 digs. Ericka Fonseca recorded 14 kills and added four blocks in the match.

The Panthers are now 2-12 on the season, while the Eagles are 12-2. Tech will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Winter Park to play SSC rival
Rollins at 7:00 p.m. This match will pit sister verse sister when both Reinders’ sisters will play each other in their first collegiate match-up.
