Volleyball Tips Off With Championship Presentation

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Aug. 22, 2007) – Florida Tech golfer Daniela Iacobelli will receive her NCAA Division II National
Championship ring in a special presentation during Monday’s home-opening volleyball match at 7 p.m. The junior earned the title by beating out a fellow
Sunshine State Conference opponent by one stroke in the four-round tournament, posting a 293 for the victory.   The ceremony will be presided over by
FIT president Anthony J. Catanese and take place between games two and three. Iacobelli is the first Panther to win an individual national
championship.   A Melbourne native, Iacobelli began her career at Florida Tech by claiming the 2006 SSC Women’s Freshman Golfer of the Year award. In
2007 she won the SSC Championship after a four-hole playoff against top- ranked Maria Garcia-Austt. Iacobelli faced Austt again at the national
championship in Pace, Fla. last May. Over the four-day tournament Iacobelli shot two eagles and 10 birdies to finish five over par in the win.   In
addition to a four-match tournament at Augusta State this weekend, FIT’s volleyball match against Dowling on Monday tips off a new season for the Panthers
as the program welcomes its new coach, Qi Wang. This year’s squad features a wealth of experience, including six seniors and as many
juniors.
