WFIT Presents Jeff Andrew Simpson and Jazz at Riverfront Park
– WFIT 89.5FM, a service of Florida Tech, and The Redevelopment Agency of the City of Cocoa present Jeff Andrew Simpson and friends in concert on Sunday,
June 26 at Cocoa’s Riverfront Park. Join jazz lovers from 3 to 6 p.m. for the free concert.
Saxophonist and flautist Simpson grew up surrounded by jazz music and jazz greats. Through his father, jazz icon Jack Simpson, he met and heard such
luminaries as Ira Sullivan, Howard McGhee and Dizzy Gillespie. With their encouragement and that of his parents, Simpson earned his bachelor’s degree from
the University of North Florida and a master’s degree in jazz composition from the University of South Florida. In college, he led successful jazz groups
at major concerts and festivals throughout Florida.
Atlanta, Ga. resident Simpson has established a reputation as a performer, composer, arranger and educator. A music teacher for the past 15 years, his
philosophy is “that jazz is the expression of the inexpressible.” Passionate about jazz, Simpson considers his music his life, his spirit and an
affirmation of his faith. He has received wide acclaim and airplay across the country for his recent CD release, “In a Midnight Moon.” Jay Edwards of WCLK
in Atlanta calls the CD “a warm breeze that embraces your heart.” Simpson will play some of the music from his CD at this concert.
