WFIT State Grant To Boost Programming, Outreach

Florida Tech’s WFIT 89.5-FM, a National Public Radio station, has qualified for a public broadcasting grant of $111,945 from the Florida Department of
Education. The grant, to be apportioned quarterly, will fund improved programming and outreach programs. “The grant will help fulfill our mission of
educating our listening audience in East Central Florida,” said Terri Wright, WFIT station manager. Some of the grant, she said, will go into WFIT’s
building fund to be held for the station’s future relocation. The station is now located in the basement of Roberts Hall, a Florida Tech residence hall on
Country Club Rd.

More specifically, the grant will help support an additional monthly concert in the Concert in the Park series at Wickham Park. “We are also exploring the
possibility of adding some new, nationally produced radio programs,” said Wright.

Because the station is now funded by the state broadcasting group, it is entitled to broadcast the Florida state news programs, Capital Report and Florida
One the Line. The programs highlight events of interest to the citizens of Florida.
