Lone Goal Gives Panthers the Edge for Victory

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (women’s soccer) – Therese Svensson’s (Helsingborg, Sweden) lone goal was enough to give the Panthers the 1-0 victory over the Saints
of Flagler College.

With a strategy to use the outside mid-fielders to obtain scoring chances, the Panthers took advantage of the speed of Svensson down the left side. Time
and time again, Svensson received the ball in the offensive end but couldn’t find the finishing touches until the 22nd minute were she got around her
defender and ripped a shot past the goalie to mark the first goal of the game and the essential game winner for the Panthers.

After the early goal by the Panthers the team stepped up defensively not allowing any goals and allowing only 9 total shots for Flagler. The defense was
held down by Jennifer Dunn (Vero Beach, Fl), Jennifer Gillette (Ormond Beach, Fl), Rachel Devlin (Titusville, Fl), and Renee Yonkof (Zephyrhills Fl) in the
backfield with the entire Panthers team helping record the shutout.

Goal keeper Melissa Pyles (Port Orange, Fl) recorded her second win and second shutout on the season.

The win puts the Panther to a 3-1-2 overall record and will be traveling to Montevallo, Alabama in a match up against Montevallo on Sunday, September 10th.
