Ready, Set, Listen! Opera, Concerts Coming to Gleason

Whether you are a fan of opera or choir, jazz bands or strings, Florida Tech has something for you and your ears in the coming months.

It starts Sept. 29 with a rare treat for the Space Coast: live opera. At 2 p.m. at Gleason Performing Arts Center, Florida Tech will welcome Opera Orlando 2024-25 Studio Artists and company director Gabriel Presser for “Destiny and Desire: Opera Orlando Young Artists in Concert,” a fundraiser for the university’s music program.

Presser will be joined by soprano Kristen Marie Gillis, mezzo-soprano Erika Vasallo, tenor Pedro Valdez and baritone Thandolwethu Mamb.

Selections will include “Oh figli… Ah! La paterna mano…” from Macbeth, “Good Advice” from Treemonisha, “Sempre Libera” from La Traviata and “The Flower” duet from Into the Woods.

The event is free for students and open to the public with a suggested $20 donation. There is no need to RSVP. Donation boxes and envelopes, as well as a QR code for online gifts, will be available at the concert.

Then starting in mid-November, Fall student showcase concerts begin at Gleason. Featuring all-student ensembles, the concerts start at 7 p.m. and are free to attend and open to the public.

Here’s the schedule: Nov. 13: Concert Band; Nov. 19: Choir; Nov. 21: Strings; Nov. 22: Jazz Band; and Dec. 3: Acapella.
