Florida Tech Summer Engineering Camp Set for July 18-22; Registration Ends May 31
MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering is offering a five day-long summer camp experience to 10th through 12th grade high school students who are interested in engineering. Participating students will conduct experiments and witness lab demonstrations. The camp starts July 18, at 9 a.m., and ends July 22, at 5 p.m.
Campers will engage in lab experiments in aerospace, chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical and ocean engineering as well as computer science and nanotechnology. Those attending will learn about bridge design, construction and assembly; computer science applications; rocket vehicle design; wind-tunnel testing; and fluid experiments. They will also learn about the MATLAB programming language software, AutoCAD software application and Pro Engineer design software. Students will visit the university’s machine shop and wave tank, and watch 30-minute presentations about different programs in engineering and computer science. They will also have the opportunity to meet with engineering department heads.
The registration deadline is May 31. Because a computer will be assigned to each student, seating is limited to 32. The registration fee for day campers is $575 and includes lunch and a T-shirt. For overnight campers, the fee of $900 includes three daily meals, a T-shirt, lodging and evening entertainment.
