Panthers Commanding 10-2 Victory over Rollins College Earns First Win in 2007

WINTER PARK, Fla. (baseball) – After an opening weekend of rain delay’s and cancellations, the Florida Tech Panthers baseball team finally got to the
diamond taking on the Tars of Rollins College under the lights in Winter Park, Florida Tuesday night. Facing their first opponent in 2007, Tech dominated
the Tars with a commanding 10-2 victory for their first win of the season.

Taking the mound for the first time this year was senior pitcher Jay Crouse (Naples, Fla.) who stunned the lineup of the Tars earning his first victory of
the year. In his five innings of pitching, Crouse struck out five batters, allowing two hits and walking five. Despite allowing runners on base, Crouse was
able to pitch through any threatening situation not allowing any runs. After a strong performance through five, sophomore relief pitcher Mike Piazza (Port
Saint Lucie, Fla.) took the mound in the sixth allowing the Tars to put a run on the board off a Tars double then two batters later drove their first run
in. Piazza settled down quickly and pitched strong through the next two innings. In the ninth, the Tars drove in their second run but with solid pitching
and the Panthers strong defense, Tech quickly closed out the game. Piazza pitched four innings striking out two batters allowing four hits and two runs but
in the end closed out the deal saving the win for Crouse and the Panters.

At the plate, the Panthers totaled 18 hits scoring 10 runs. In the top of the first, the Panthers produced one runner off a walk but couldn’t bring him in.
The Panthers quickly put a run on the board in the second as the DH Sam Palace (Clarkson, MI) slammed the ball over the right center field fence for his
first homerun on the year. Later in the second, the Panthers would score off an error putting the Panthers up 2-0 at the end of the inning. After scoring
in the second inning, the Panthers threatened throughout the rest of the game scoring one in the 4th, three in the 5th, and two in the 8th and 9th innings.
The Panthers made the Tars go to their bullpen after scoring 6 runs through five innings and again go to their bullpen in the 7th and then the 9th inning.
After nine innings the Panthers scored 10 runs on 18 hits in their 10-2 victory over the Tars.

Steve Condotta (MIssissauga, Ontario) at the plate went 4 for 6 knocking in one run and scoring another. Three other Panther batters went 3 for 5 each
knocking in 3 runs and scoring 7 of the 10 runs while on base. As a team, Tech stood at the plate a total of 43 times combining for 18 hits to the Tars 32
plate appearances with 6 hits.

Tech now (1-0) travels to Savannah, Georgia on Friday, February 9th to face Armstrong Atlantic and Wingate over the weekend facing both teams twice.
