Plain White T’s to Headline Florida Tech Homecoming Fest

Free Outdoor Event April 5 Features Bands, Food, Family Activities and More

MELBOURNE, FLA. —The alternative rock band Plain White T’s will headline Florida Tech’s 2024 Homecoming Fest set to rock Nance Park in Indialantic from 6-11 p.m. Friday, April 5.

The event is presented by the Florida Tech Alumni Association and Student Government Association, in partnership with Deuterman Productions.

Other musical acts scheduled to perform are the national acts ALEXSUCKS and The Kaleidoscope Kid and DJ Tommy MOT based out of Orlando.

Known initially for their smash acoustic pop ballad “Hey There Delilah,” a 2007 chart topper that garnered two Grammy nominees, Plain White T’s have remained an in-demand pop-rock band for more than 25 years.

The group’s newest album, 2023’s “Plaine White T’s,” returns the band to some of its original sound, critics note.  Lead singer Tom Higgenson, who co-founded the band with high school chums Dave Tirio and Ken Fletcher, told Shondaland in an November 2023 interview that the album “was more about claiming our identity as Plain White T’s and owning the things that people love about us, hopefully!”

He said, “I feel like this album really feels the most like Plain White T’s than any other album we’ve ever made.”

Both ALEXSUCKS and The Kaleidoscope Kid hail from the West, the former out of Los Angeles, the latter Arizona. Both were shaped by the skateboarding scene.

ALEXSUCKS frontman Alex Alvarez, a skateboarder since age 3, “is known for his unapologetic style inspired by the garage dance-punk revival featuring catchy singalong lyrics,” according to Wasserman, the global talent agency that represents all three bands performing at Homecoming Fest. Their latest album is 2023’s “The Gutter.”

Of The Kaleidoscope Kid, Wasserman notes that he emerged from Arizona’s skateboarding scene at the dawn of the 21st century “before rediscovering his childhood passion for music, originally inspired by the sounds of artists such as Beck, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Jimi Hendrix.” His latest album is “Azul,” set to be released later this year.

Orlando’s Tommy MOT will entertain between the band performances.
