AI, Business and Society Focus of Oct. 1 Panel Discussion

A panel of distinguished scholars and business leaders will discuss the impact and ethical implications of artificial intelligence in relationship to business and society at a free lunchtime event Tuesday, Oct. 1.

“The Effect of Artificial Intelligence on Business and Society and the Human Condition” is presented by Florida Tech’s Center for Ethics and Leadership. It will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hartley Room on the second floor of the Denius Student Center.

The event is free, but registration is required.

The panel will feature:

  • Ted Richardson, Ph.D., Dean of the Bisk College of Business at Florida Tech
  • Moti Mizrahi, Ph.D., professor of philosophy at Florida Tech with an expertise in technology ethics
  • Robert Allen, managing partner, AiryChat LLC and member, Bisk College of Business Advisory Board
  • Michael Marks, managing partner, Indian River Consulting Group and member, Bisk College of Business Advisory Board

The discussion will be moderated by Wes Sumner, Ph.D., Florida Tech’s vice president for external affairs.

Topics the panel will discuss include a potential future where machines make decisions and form the markets that drive consumption and revenue. What would that be like? What controls are necessary to control artificial intelligence in all aspects of our lives including education?

Lunch will begin shortly after 11:30 a.m. After opening remarks from Dean Richardson, the panel will begin its discussion at noon. The even concludes at 1:30 p.m. following a question-and-answer segment.
