Brevard Public Schools Superintendent to Speak Oct. 20 on Ethics and Success

Florida Tech’s Center for Ethics and Leadership Hosts Free Event

MELBOURNE, FLA. — The Center for Ethics and Leadership at Florida Institute of Technology’s Nathan Bisk College of Business presents a breakfast seminar Oct. 20 examining how personal ethics can affect success.

“Developing a Personal Code of Ethics for Academic and Professional Success” will feature Desmond K. Blackburn, the new superintendent of Brevard Public Schools.

The public event runs from 7:45-9:30 a.m. at the Hartley Room on the second floor of the Denius Student Center on Florida Tech’s Melbourne campus, 150 W. University Blvd. A continental breakfast will be served.

Admission is free but registration is required.

Born in New York but a Florida resident since 1988, Blackburn was named superintendent of Brevard Public Schools in July 2015, replacing Brian Binggelli. A graduate of the University of Florida, his first job in education was as a math teacher at Plantation High School in South Florida in 1996.

By March 2000, he was an assistant principal, and his steady ascension took him through the ranks of principal, district trainer, director of school improvement, area superintendent, and chief school performance and accountability officer before arriving on the Space Coast.

He and his wife Kelli have been married 18 years and have two sons, Dean and Grant.
