CoB annual “Business Model Pitch Competition”

Last week the College of Business had its Annual Business Model Pitch Competition.

Each team had just 5 minutes to pitch their new business idea to a team of judges which included Erica Lemp, Executive Director of weVENTURE; Arnel Alicia, President/CEO of Propel Professionals; Dr. Abram Walton, Professor of Management at FIT; and Patricia Tellechea, President/CEO of GIMEX USA; Mike Marks, Managing Partner of the Indian River Consulting Group (IRCG); Laraine Schultz, Managing Director at Wells Fargo Advisors, and Val Williams, Program Director at weVENTURE.

The judges interacted directly with the students, gave them advices and guidance regarding their business/product ideas which has a tremendous impact on their learning.

The competition was divided into two sessions, here are the results:

Morning Session:

1st place:    “Chupacabra” – the high-tech coffee tumbler that serves as a charging device for mobile phones

Team Members:  Ashley Kuc, Vincent Panichelli

2nd place:  “AYCE” (All You Can Eat) – edible utensils

Team Members:  Mahmood Al Adawi, Loghan Ashline, Sam Avey

3rd place:  “Fro-Home” – a frozen yogurt machine for the home (similar in design to a Keurig coffee machine)

Team Members:  Madison Youngling, Jahren Bailey, Liam Burke

Afternoon Session:

1st place:   “SMARTstart Technologies” – a high-tech, baby car seat that tracks/monitors baby’s health and provides several other interactive features

Team Members:  Edwards (Shane) Leiper, Edward Jicha 

2nd place:  “My Doggy” – a “Fitbit” for dogs combined with a camera and ability for owners to call/speak to their dogs remotely

Team Members:  Tyrone Cromwell, Shyquan Barnes, Braxton Larmond 

3rd place:  “Quick Fly App” – a free app for air travelers that is dynamic and provides real-time wait times for security lines at airports (similar to “Waze” for driving)

Team Members:  Braden Dunn, Kailee O’Brien, Will Bredeck
