U.S. News & World Report Rates Florida Tech #6 in Top 10 National Universities for Student Internships

MELBOURNE, FL—U.S. News & World Report recently published the report, “10 Universities Producing the Most Interns,” ranking Florida Institute of Technology #6 among the top 10 in the nation. The report identified the schools that produced the highest percentage of graduating seniors with internship experience. At 60 percent, Florida Tech was just below George Washington University’s 66 percent.

“The work of our Career Management Services is a source of great pride here. We are pleased to know that our opinion is supported by U.S. News & World Report as we strive to give Florida Tech students the real-world skills they need to get great jobs after graduation,” said Florida Tech President Anthony J. Catanese.

The report also noted that, “With an extremely competitive job market facing them when they graduate, engineering majors—as well as students in a variety of other areas of study—choose to supplement their course work with internships, which give them an opportunity to get out of the classroom an into real-life work situations.”

Among the top 10 of 1,800 colleges and universities surveyed by U.S. News, Florida Tech was the smallest school in terms of bachelor’s degrees awarded in 2010. The other top 10 schools were American University, Colorado School of Mines, Dartmouth College, University of Pittsburgh, South Carolina State University, University of Massachusetts—Amherst, Pace University and University of South Dakota.
