Florida Tech Students Awarded by Financial Executives International Association
Four FIT students were honored on April 10, 2014 at the Financial Executives International Academic Night. Three students, Ernestas Zarskis, Gwendolyn Kauffmann, and Vernon Mugabe Kihuguru won scholarships and Brian Kryszczynski won an award for the FEI Distinguished Scholar Program. Students that attended the Financial Executives International Academic Night enjoyed an excellent opportunity to network with Central Florida executives and discuss important issues in the fields of finance and accounting. The keynote speaker of the evening was Craig McAllaster, the Dean of the School of Business at Rollins. His talk emphasized that different generations have different approaches to their work lives and managers must understand this in order to be effective.
Ernestas Zarskis is an accounting major and is on Men’s Rowing Varsity Team. He was a Florida Tech Athletic Director’s Honor Roll Recipient in both Spring 2012 and Spring 2013. He was also honored as a National Consortium for Academics and Sports Honor Roll Recipient both Spring 2012 and Spring 2013. He is multilingual being fluent in Lithuanian and English, proficient in Russian and conversational in Polish. In addition to course work and athletics, Ernestas has shown his leadership role as a Facility Supervisor at the Florida Institute of Technology Clemente Center.
Gwendolyn Kauffmann will receive her Bachelor of Science in Accounting this May. She plans to continue on the Fast Track MBA program with an emphasis in accounting. She is on the FIT Women’s Tennis Team and has taught free tennis clinics to Brevard area students. Gwen is a member of the Delta Mu Delta Honor Society, the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and received the Outstanding Junior of the Year Award in 2013. In addition to working at the FIT Clemente Center, she is currently an intern at Berman Hopkins Wright and LaHam as an associate staff accountant.
Vernon Kihuguru is a junior majoring in International Business with a minor in Computational Mathematics. Vernon plans on a career in investment banking. His interest was sparked the summer of 2012, when he was the Investment Banking Intern at the Stanbic Bank in Uganda. He has served as the Treasurer of the Florida Institute of Technology African Students Association. Vernon is a tutor in the FIT Academic Support Center and he has been on Dean’s list every semester since 2011.
Brian Kryszczynski, the medallion winner, will be receiving his M.B.A this spring and he was also a FIT undergrad with a major in Mechanical Engineering. He has been working at Quantum Technology Sciences, Inc. in Cocoa Beach, Florida since 2009. Brian’s objective is to use a combination of his technical expertise and management experience in order to expand his role into business and strategic management. He is a member of Delta Mu Delta Honor Society and was runner-up in the ANGA Collegiate Energy Challenge in 2012. He has been a Board Member and on the Executive Council of Pi Kappa Alpha.
