Florida Tech’s weVENTURE Honored by SBA

Named Women’s Business Center of Excellence         

MELBOURNE, FLA. — weVENTURE, Florida Institute of Technology’s innovative women’s business center, was recognized as a Women’s Business Center of Excellence by the U.S. Small Business Administration as part of its 2018 District and State of Florida Small Business Week Awards.

weVENTURE, which is focused on accelerating sustainable business growth for entrepreneurs, won for the South Florida District, the state of Florida and the SBA’s Region IV, which comprises Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

The award acknowledges weVENTURE’s dedication in advocating for and advancing small business ownership and expansion opportunities for women entrepreneurs.

This is the fourth consecutive year weVENTURE has earned this SBA honor.

“We are thrilled to be receiving this honor. Small businesses truly are the backbone of our economy and we are committed to facilitating their success,” said weVENTURE Executive Director Erica Lemp. “This award recognizes not only our innovative programs and the work of our staff, but also the countless volunteer business mentors and advisors who make these programs so successful.”

SBA representatives will present the award on May 4 – during Small Business Week – at weVENTURE’s Strong Coffee, Strong Women networking event from 8-10 a.m. at Florida Tech’s CAI building, 1050 W. NASA Blvd. in Melbourne.

The award presentation will be followed by a panel discussion about maintaining empathy in a technology driven world featuring three female professors at Florida Tech representing engineering, business and psychology. The event is open to the public and is $20 per person to attend.
