I started my spring break visiting friends in Daytona Beach. This is a view from the boardwalk looking out onto the beach and all the festivities there. I had a lot of fun in Daytona but I was only there for a few days.
My trip to Daytona included a side trip down to Ponce Inlet, where the tallest lighthouse in Florida is located. It was a nice little area full of historical significance. Pictured here is the lighthouse and the veterans memorial.
No vacation would be complete without a bonfire with friends. Upon my return from Daytona, some friends and I got together and had a bonfire. We made smores, listened to country music and looked up at the stars. All in all, it was a pretty solid night.
The peacefulness of the prior night’s bonfire was short lived. The next day I decided on a whim to give skydiving a try. Admittedly, I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie and this was by far one of the most exhilarating things I’ve done. After free-falling for about a minute and a half, we parachuted down for about five to 10 minutes. My instructor, Scott, let me control the parachute, and he taught me a few pretty cool maneuvers. I’ll definitely be skydiving again.
I decided early on before spring break that I wanted to get in touch with some relatives that I hadn’t seen in well over five years. My Great Aunt and Uncle live up in The Villages and were more than welcoming to the idea of me coming up and spending some time with them. The Villages were kind of cool. For those that don’t know, it’s a HUGE community of retired adults that are all very active and spend their days driving around tricked-out golf carts, shopping, dancing, and playing golf. While I was visiting my family I learned quite a bit more about my family’s history and was fortunate enough to meet a few cousins that I never knew I had.
Last spring break I went on a sailing adventure down to the spoil islands and camped out. If you’re ever in need of ideas to occupy your free time, I encourage you to just take a look around your local community. There’s a lot to do; you just have to go out there and find it.
