The Zonta Club Awards Florida Tech’s Women’s Business Center $500 For New Scholarship

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology Women’s Business Center (WBC) recently received $500 from the Zonta Club of Melbourne to provide scholarships to women.

The scholarship is named in honor of the Meehan family—Dennis, Kathy, Ron, LeAnne and Barbara—and Warren Miller for their longtime support of the Zonta Club. The Zonta/Meehan Scholarship is a needs-based program designed to support women in Brevard County wishing to improve their life through education. Chartered on Dec. 1, 1983, the club has more than 20 committed members who attend monthly meetings to coordinate community projects and fundraising activities.

The scholarship will assist women who are returning to college or beginning college for the first time. Eligible applicants must either be enrolled as a part- or full-time student at an accredited college, university, or trade school, or plan to be enrolled when the next term begins. Applicants may use the scholarship to take classes offered by the WBC such as Quickbooks, Word or Excel in order to upgrade their skills.

The club is a member of Zonta International, a global organization of male and female executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. The Melbourne Club is in Zonta’s District 11, which encompasses the states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, the Bahamas and Puerto Rico.
