Viera Wins Top Spot at Bisk College of Business High School Business Ethics Competition
Winners Awarded up to $192,000 in Cash, Merit Scholarships
A team from Viera High School won first place in the 26th annual Bisk College of Business High School Business Ethics Competition. Teams from Rockledge High placed second and fourth, with Melbourne Central Catholic (MCC) placing third.
The 2nd-, 3rd- and 4th-place teams are pictured below.
The two-round competition is designed to enhance high school students’ understanding of business ethics and their application in the field. Groups of three to four students are presented with ethical dilemmas and must determine how to apply tests and justify their choices. The experience also teaches team skills and exposes students to the challenge of interschool scholastic competition. It also gives them a chance to work with experienced professionals and build relationships with College of Business faculty.
Viera’s winning team featured Lily McKune, Alec Imberman, Olivia Gapud and Gunner Vance and coaches Amanda Perdue and Karrah Hudkins.
Rockledge’s second-place team featured Miriam Mizyed, Anastasiia Maksimova, Lorelai McDougal and James Sanders; the students on the fourth-place team were Natalie Norcross, Nick Hall, Jeremiah Perez and Breydon Peacock. Both teams were coached by Christine Kearns.
MCC’s team, made up of Brandon Fishe, Michael Breisch, Kirra Collins and Devon Carney, was coached by Johnmichael Thistle.
Teams were judged by a panel from a variety of career fields that included members of the Bisk College of Business Advisory Board, as well as several community members.
The top teams were awarded up to $192,000, primarily in merit scholarships to Florida Tech but also some cash prizes. All participants are guaranteed a minimum merit scholarship of $12,000, renewable for three additional years, if they enroll at the university.
