Volleyball Extends Winning Streak

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. – Panther volleyball remains undefeated this season after downing Flagler College on the road 3-0. This is the first time in
school history that volleyball has started a season 7-0. The last time the program came this close was in 1995 and 1998 with 6-0 starts.

Leading the way for Tech was Sacha Gumbs with 14 kills and Marcela Vasconcelos with 34 assists. Mayne
Pegorari and Amy O’Brien contributed 13 digs each while Whitney Roberts added four blocks.

For the Lions, Meg Weathersby collected 13 kills and Katie Pommier had 16 assists. Liz Moyer added 17 digs while Leah Melton had five blocks.

Game one found the Panthers struggling for control falling behind by as many as nine points. A surge with Vasconcelos at the service line brought the
Panthers to 20-25. Later, Lindsay Foster served four rally’s to tie the game at 29 a piece. Gumbs drove the final kill to give Tech the
win 32-30. The Panthers took an early lead in game two, but the Lions fought back making it a one-point match until Pegorari went to the service line. Tech
pulled away to make the score 26-17. Tech only allowed Flagler two more points and took the game 30-19. The Panthers maintained control in game three
scoring an average of three points every time they got the ball. Foster had the final kill of the match sealing the win 30-24.

Head Coach Qi Wang was proud of the team’s performance.

“It was a tough match, but we passed the test,” said Wang. “Everyone played well.”

The Panthers will travel again this weekend to Savannah, Ga. for the AASU/Chatham Orthopedic Volleyball Classic. These will be the final games before
Sunshine State Conference play begins next week.
