Softball Shuts Down Lady Statesman

PENSACOLA, Fla. (softball) — The Florida Tech Panthers (5-3) came out to play today at the UWF Softball Complex sweeping NCAA DII regional opponent the Delta
State Lad Statesman (2-5) 2-1 and 9-2 for the doubleheader action at the 2007 GSC/SSC Crossover Tournament hosted by West Florida.

Senior Kristen Fettes (Deltona, Fla.) and junior Ashley Coleman (Molalla, Ore.) came on strong today for Tech both batting .429 for the day. Fettes had
three hits with three RBI’s garnering both a double and triple leading the way for Tech. Coleman who also finished with three hits added one double and one
RBI along with her season first home run.

Fellow senior Katie Naumoff (Poland, Ohio) topped the team chipping in a .500 hitting percentage going 2-for-4 with three runs.

Both Tech newcomers’ freshman Ida Danielson (Fairfield, Cal.) and junior Danielle Stanley Garyson, Ga.) also stepped up big for the day each adding two
hits apiece. Danielson plated two runners while Stanley went 2-for-6 with three runs and one RBI hitting .333 to finish of the regional double header
action.

Junior Amber West (Apopka, Fla.) pitched the first game picking up the win. West (3-1) put away the Lady Statesman giving up only one unearned run on nine
hits for game one. She completed the game with four strike-outs.

Tech struck first scoring out of the gate when Stanley scored the run after reaching on an error by Delta State. Stanley stole second and moved to third on
a single up the middle by Naumoff. Fettes proceeded to plate Stanley on a deep shot short.

The score remained 1-to-0 until top of the sixth when Naumoff scored the crimson and gray sluggers eventual game winner after a single shot to left field
and proceeded to round the bases on two wild pitches and a passed ball to score.

Delta State made a minor comeback in the bottom of the sixth only to come up short with Ericka Harris (Houston, Tex.) picking up the lone run.

In game two, Judith Husband (Wewahitchka, Fla.) was awarded her second win of the season going 6.0 innings allowing seven hits on two runs while fanning
two batters. Heather Boyts (Sarasota, Fla.) came in for an inning of relief at the end allowed on hit and struck out one for the game.

Florida Tech distributed the scoring throughout every inning scoring one run in the first, second third, fourth and fifth while sealing the deal with four
runs in the sixth.

In the first inning, Chisena scored on a wild pitch. Coleman reached on a double shot to left field and was plated by junior Ali Wiegand (Tallahassee,
Fla.) in the second. Stanley scored in the third off a triple shot by Fettes.

In the bottom of the fourth Coleman produced the lone homer of the day launching the fourth run over the left field wall. Naumoff again scored in the fifth
after being placed on and was brought home by Danielson’s smack up the middle.

Delta State again rallied in the sixth scoring two runs Harris along with Courtney Clark (Little Rock, Ark.) helped start the roll with deep shots in the
outfield both players then proceeded to score runs. Despite the Delta’s late waged war again in the sixth and seventh innings, Husband took care of the
final out herself.

Tech went on a tear in the bottom of the sixth scoring four runs. To start the inning junior Jenn Wise (Auburndale, Fla.) walked. At the next at bat
Wiegand laid down a smartly executed sacrifice bun to move Wise to second. Chisena then singled up the middle, advancing to second on the throw while Wise
advanced to third. Wise was plated by Stanley on another shot up the middle. With Chisena now at third and Naumoff at first after being placed on, Fettes
cracked one to centerfield scoring Chisena.

Delta State continued the inning after a fielding error by the shortstop putting junior Ashley Lugo (Cape Coral, Fla.) on base while Stanley scored.
Danielson plated Naumoff on the final run for Tech.

The Lady Statesman added one more run in the seventh off of Boyts falling short by six runs for the comeback.

Florida Tech now 5-3 on the season will face Alabama Huntsville tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. (11:00 a.m. EST) for the final doubleheader of the crossover.
