Tech Comes On Strong Oonly To Fall 3-1 Against SSC Foe Rollins In Women’s Volleyball
MELBOURNE, Fla.-Consistency is not in the Panthers vocabulary thus far this season, after falling 3-1 against the Tars in Sunshine State Conference
volleyball action tonight at the Clemente Center. Florida Tech (4-11, 0-4) came out strong taking game one 30-28. They played tough in game two, but lost
30-26 to the Rollins Tars (14-4, 1-2). The Tars’ quickly took games three and four 30-15 and 30-19 for the Friday night victory.
In game two, at the 25-25 point, something went array in the Panthers’ play. After losing the second, Tech was unable to regain their composure to overtake
the Tars effective offense. Tech’s attack percentage per game started out at a .304 to Rollins’ .294, in game two the Panthers hit a match high with a .333
to the Tars .237. In the final two games Tech hit a .000 and a.057 respectively compared to a very solid attack percentage of .289 and .273 to finish off
the night for Rollins.
Junior outside hitter Julie Caner (Boca Raton, Florida) notched 17 kills and 10 digs for the match. Three other Tars’ hit in the double figures including
senior middle blocker Allison North (Mobile, AL) with tallying 14 and hitting a .391 for the evening. A flawless performance came from sophomore middle
blocker Christina Reinders (Orlando, Florida) grabbed a match high .538 attack percentage an led at the net with five block assists.
Defensively, sophomore Libero Kim Cline ( Lake Worth, Florida)pulled in the game high 22 digs, while freshman setter Lacey Malarky (Lawrence, Kansas) set a
match high 52 assists for the contest.
Tech’s senior middle hitter Kelly Currin (Waynesville, Ohio) led her team with 12 kills and a .345 attack percentage. Currin also chipped in four blocks
and four digs. Junior outside hitter Megan Konopnicki also put up some season best numbers with 13 kills, 13 digs and to only solo block of the night.
Sophomore setter Amanda Boyce hit .227 with seven kills and 21 assists.
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow afternoon September 24th traveling to Lakeland to face Florida Southern in another SSC match-up at 4:00 p.m.
