Panther Baseball Sweeps NSU in Double Header taking the SSC Series 2-to-1

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Tech baseball returns the favor to Nova Southeastern sweeping the Sharks to take the overall SSC series 2-to-1; game one the
Panthers pitching combination of Mike Piazza (Miami, Fla.) and Jay Crouse (Naples, Fla.) shut down the Sharks offense for a 4-2 victory and in game two the
Panthers pounced on the Sharks defeating them with a 15-5 victory.

Piazza who received his seventh win on the year started the game off strong as he retired the first nine batters he faced in three innings striking out
three with five groundouts and one pop out. In the fourth with one swing of the bat, the Sharks broke the tie taking a 1-0 lead with a solo homerun by
Bryan Valencia but Piazza would stay strong getting out of the inning without any further damage.

Going down 1-0 a breath of life seemed to jump into the Panthers team as Michael Demma (Coral Springs, Fla.) led the fifth off with his lone hit of game
and then two batters later Eric Trillas (Hialeah, Fla.) knocked in the tying and lead run with his third homerun of the year. The Sharks would tie the
ballgame up in the sixth as a double knocked in the run as the Shark player reached on a base hit up the middle.

Piazza would stay in the game closing out the sixth and seventh not allowing another run or a hit while finishing his seven innings of pitching. Mike
finished with five strikeouts, three walks, giving up four hits and two runs but got the Sharks to ground out eleven times and pop out five times for his
seventh win on the year taking his record to 7-0 on the year.

Helping to reserve the win for Piazza was a productive eighth inning at the plate for the Panthers. Tech’s Trillas scored off an RBI single by Brendan
Twomey (Boca Raton, Fla.) with two outs; Trillas reached after being hit by a pitch. After Twomey drove in the essential winning run for the Panthers, Tech
would put up an insurance run as first baseman Eamonn Powers (Staten Island, NY) drove in Twomey with his second base hit of the game.

Jay Crouse (Naples, Fla.) closed out the game for Tech pitching two innings earning his first save on the year as he closed out the scoring threat by the
Sharks in the eighth and shutdown Nova in the ninth. Crouse struck out two batters walking one and gave up two hits in facing nine batters for the save
over NSU.

Tech combined to score four runs on five hits for their 26th win and 10th SSC win on the year.

In game two the Panthers opened the flood gates early at their first at bat as Nick Brennan (Detroit, Mich.) led off the game with his first double of the
game and then would score from third after a wild pitch. After Steve Condotta (Mississauga, Ontario) reached on a walk, Eamonn Powers pelted the ball over
the fence in center field for his sixth homerun of the year taking the Panthers to an early 3-0 lead after the first half inning; Tech would go on to total
15 runs with eight hits in the 15-5 victory over the Sharks.

In the second, Condotta pushed the lead to 7-0 after his fourth homerun of year driving in three runs; Brennan who hit his second double of the game at his
second plate appearance drove in Will Lanier (Jacksonville, Fla.) who also reached on a double for the other run in the inning.

The long ball again by Eric Trillas (Hialeah, Fla.) followed up his first homerun of the series on Friday night hit another homerun in third inning driving
in JD Davidson (Naples, Fla.) who reached after being hit by a pitch. Tech would follow up scoring six runs in the fourth with only two hits in the inning.
Condotta led off with his third hit of the game and then three consecutive walks would score one run and then an error by the third baseman would score two
more runs. Tim Gonyer (West Palm Beach, Fla.) the sixth batter of the inning would knock in another run with his lone base hit of the game and the final
two runs would be driven in by wild pitch and a one out ground out to the first basemen by Brennan.

Jonathan Cornelius (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) who pitched for the Panthers went on to earn his fifth win of the year after pitching another strong game going six
innings striking out five batters and one walk. Cornelius did allow eight hits and two runs but pitched effectively to get the Sharks to ground out three
times and pop out eight times. Brett Backman (Ontario, Canada) came in to close out the outing in the seventh striking out the last batter to close out the
game and the victory to the Panthers.

Nick Brennan and Steve Condotta were the only Tech players to have a multi hit game but four other players all had hits in the game; Powers, Trillas,
Gonyer, and Lanier all hit a hit apiece. Knocking in 13 of the 15 runs was Trillas who totaled 4 RBI with Condotta driving in 3 RBI and Brennan totaling 2
RBI; Demma and Gonyer had the other two RBI in the second game.

In the series the Panthers scored 29 runs on 24 hits totaling 25 RBI in 95 plate appearances; Tech also left the yard a total of five times against the
Sharks as they improve to 27-15 overall and 11-7 in the SSC. Tech has the next couple days off but will be back in action on Tuesday April 17th to face the
Eagles of Embry-Riddle University in a night game starting at 6pm in Daytona.
