#5 Florida Tech Womens Soccer Finishes Season Tying 1-1 Against #1Tampa in SSC Semi-Finals

TAMPA, Fla. — Despite finishing double overtime action tied 1-1, Tampa took the shoot-out 4-1 advancing to the 2006 Sunshine State Conference Championship
Game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. where they will face the #2 seeded Saint Leo University for the 2006 title.

The Panthers (8-4-6) played a tremendous defensive game against Tampa allowing no goals only penalty kick goals for the 110 minutes plus the shoot-out time
for the semifinal match-up. Freshman Melissa Pyles (Port Orange, Fla.) had seven saves and only one goal against off a PK in the 75th minute of the game.

Tech struck first netting the only non PK goal of the game. Freshman midfielder Therese Svensson (Helsingborg, Sweden) notched her 6th season goal right
out of the gate in the third minute off a through ball by junior forward Ericka Hildreth (Cocoa Beach, Fla.). Hildreth finished up the season with seven
assists.

The Panthers despite 15 shots and eight on goal held the #8 ranked Tampa (#1 NCAA DII South Region) to a scoreless lead 1-0 until the 75th minute of play
on an unlucky foul in the box. Tampa’s senior forward Samantha Robinson (Dunedin, Fla.) knotted the score on a PK with the scoreboard at 1-1.

Both teams fought hard in the next 35 minutes of the game including two ten minute overtime periods resulting in a shoot-out. Tampa’s Shelby Kuni (Houston,
Tex.) shot first and made the goal. Tech’s first shooter senior Ro Hernandez (Madrid, Spain) was unlucky and her shot was blocked giving the 1-0 advantage
to the Spartans. Second round proved both shooter’s successful with freshman Teresa Brantley (Satellite Beach, Fla.) netting Tech’s only PK.

Third round again proved successful for Tampa; unfortunately senior Miranda Tessier shot her attempt right into the hands of Tampa’s keeper Shannon Aitken
(Land’O Lakes, Fla.). In the fourth round, Tampa only had to make their first attempt to shut down Tech. Tampa’s Danielle Celmer did just that to win the
shoot-out and advance them to the title match.

“Taking the #8 team in the nation to a shoot-out after a tied double overtime is a great accomplishment for Florida Tech,” said Head Coach Fidgi Haig.
“They finished on a huge note and I am very proud of them.”
