Oct. 27 Autism-Related Workshop Discusses Independent Living for Young Adults

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology’s School of Psychology offers free monthly workshops of particular interest to parents, educators and professionals who deal with the issues of autism. They are scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Scott Center for Autism Treatment Seminar Room.

The Oct. 27 workshop, “Job and Community-based Service for Independent Living for Young Adults,” will be presented by Betsy Farmer, executive director of the Brevard Business Leadership Network (BLN). Attendees will learn about how the BLN works to expand employment opportunities for individuals with special needs. The BLN develops an employer network that provides clients with work experience through on-the-job training programs that have been established at area businesses.

There will also be a presentation about Promise, a planned housing complex to be located in the Melbourne area, which will provide affordable housing for individuals with and without special needs.

The workshops are held in the Seminar Room, located on the second floor of the Scott Center for Autism Treatment at the south end of the Florida Tech campus. Parking is available off Psychology Place, near University Boulevard.
