A Message from President Nicklow
Presidential Perspectives for Aug. 22, 2023
Hello, Panthers!
Here we go! A new academic year is about to be in full swing and the excitement is building all across campus.
Stacy and I have had so much fun welcoming students and parents over the past several weeks, from handing out ice cream at move-in day, to welcoming the class of 2027 at student convocation, to taking my first Florida Tech selfie with one of the largest freshman classes in university history—we’re making wonderful memories together and sharing our enthusiasm. It’s always important to work hard—but also good to have a little fun along the way as well.
Speaking of hard work…I’m standing in the lobby of Florida Tech’s newest and shiniest resource—The Gordon L. Nelson Health Sciences building. This $18 million-dollar facility is serving as the backbone of our biomedical engineering programs.
With over 20,000 square feet of classroom and training spaces, it allows students access to teaching laboratories that use augmented and virtual reality tools and space for orthopedics, tissue studies and advanced computational simulations. If you have a class in here, I’m sure you are in for an amazing experience. And if you don’t, stop by this semester and check it out.
Remember, we’re celebrating Florida Tech’s 65th anniversary all this academic year with the theme “Forward Together. Boundless Potential.” Friday, Sept. 22 is our official Founders Day, and we’ve got some great things planned. Stay tuned for details.
Good luck as we start this semester alongside one another. Let’s make it a great year! There’s nothing we can’t accomplish together.
I’ll see you around campus—and Go Panthers!
Sincerely,
John Nicklow, Ph.D.
President
