Chopper Dropper Tickets on Sale, Ready to Land March 14

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology is making plans for the Sporting Affair XXII Golf Tourney and 11th annual Chopper Dropper, which will be held March 14 at the Suntree Country Club. Sporting Affair is the university’s biggest fundraiser for athletics scholarships and Chopper Dropper—the helicopter drop of 2,000 numbered golf balls onto the green—is the key event.

The 2013 Sporting Affair grossed $480,000 for scholarships that support Panther-athletes this academic year. The 2014 proceeds will help student-athletes with scholarships in 2014-2015. Chopper Dropper raises funds by selling 2,000 numbered golf balls at $100 apiece and dropping them in a helicopter flyover. The ball that lands closest to the pin wins $50,000 and last year Josh Baker of Jacksonville held the ticket with that ball’s number. Other cash prizes are $10,000 and 15 prizes of $1,000 each for a total of $75,000 given away.

The cocktail party is part of the fun and one individual per $100 ball sponsorship may enjoy a generous selection of food, soft drinks, wine and beer from a variety of restaurant partners. Sporting Affair proceeds consist of major sponsorships, the golf tourney, cocktail party, silent auction and raffle. All are invited to join in this premier fundraiser; to enjoy the fresh air, camaraderie and excitement for a very good cause. The cocktail reception starts at 5:30 p.m. and the ball drop is at sunset.
